Telemonitoring is new to most clinicians,
and while we do not force the adoption of new technologies,
clinicians may need to adapt their approach to clinical decision
making and management in order to take full advantage of the
rich and timely data telemonitoring provides.
To help clinicians and customers get the
most out of our services, we have partnered with the Institute
for Johns Hopkins Nursing to develop educational programs
on the efficient use of telemonitoring. We have launched phase
one of a multi-part educational program to help clinicians
and health care organizations successfully integrate home
telemonitoring into their current work flow.
This initial phase takes the form of a workbook
for home care organizations. It provides an overview of telemonitoring
and instructs nurses in how to assess objective data such
as blood pressure and weight, and subjective data such as
patient-reported symptoms, for better clinical decision-making.
The program will help nurses understand and interpret the
combined objective and subjective data to determine when phone
intervention or home visits are most appropriate. By knowing
which patients to visit and when, nurses will improve patient
outcomes and reduce unnecessary calls or home visits.
This and future educational programs
will offer continuing education (CE) credit through the Institute
for Johns Hopkins Nursing. Programs for physicians will offer
CME credit.
