HEMOGLOBIN A1c

Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c, or glycosylated hemoglobin) provides a more reliable indication of blood glucose control than individual blood glucose readings, because it reflects overall blood glucose levels during the preceding 60-90 days, and is not subject to the rapid fluctuation of individual blood glucose readings.

The American Diabetes Association recommends HbA1c as the best way to assess blood glucose control. The ADA recommends this test every 3 months for patients taking insulin, and every 6 months for stable patients using oral medication to control diabetes. According to ADA guidelines, 7% is the upper limit of normal, and action should be taken if HbA1c is over 8%.

LifeLink Monitoring offers HbA1c telemonitoring with a CLIA-approved test that requires only a single drop of blood.
